The Vatican MuseumsThe museums of the Vatican City are the main museums of the world. They include 1400 museum rooms, where you can see more than 65 000 works of art. All this treasure is presented on the museums’ territory of the smallest independent city-state in the world – the Vatican City State. You will never forgive yourself if you don’t visit the Art Gallery, were the works of Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci, Titian and Caravaggio are presented. You won’t stay indifferent to the  Museo Pio-Clementino and Chiaramonti, the galleries of trellis and geographical maps, The four Raphael Rooms and Sistine Chapel. At the end we offer you visiting of St. Paul’s Cathedral – the symbol and the historical centre of the Vatican City. A really huge dome of this cathedral dominates Rome as if defending the city from visible and invisible enemies. St. Paul’s Cathedral is also Rome’s emblem. The Cathedral was built on the sole of the Emperor Constantine basilica founded in the IV century. The basilica in its turn was built on the place of burial of Peter the Apostle, who was crucified in the 1st century in Neron’s ruling.

In order to avoid senseless queuing it is worth foreseeing the possibility to buy tickets in advance. You may also visit the museums in the afternoon, when there are far less people.

If you make a request in advance, you can get the possibility to visit the Gardens of the Vatican City and the catacombs, on Wednesday – the papal audience, to make the ascent to the dome or to organize the visit of the Castle of the Holy Angel, connected by the elevated passage Passetto, built in the 13th century, with Pope appartment.

During religious holidays and also papal audience, St. Paul’s Cathedral is closed for visitors. Remember that it is forbidden to visit the Cathedral wearing shorts , short skirts, and also clothes that don’t cover the shoulders.
